- Abstract
This article evaluates the tenure in the position and in the profession of teachers in the U.S. Wide variations in mobility rate are found for elementary teachers, junior high school teachers, and senior high school teachers. There is an increase in mean tenure of position in town schools in Indiana. The average number of years of experience of teachers in town schools who remained in their positions was 9.0 years as compared with 6.1 years for those withdrawing. The average salary of teachers remaining in their positions was slightly higher than the average for those withdrawing.
