- Abstract
Late one evening, two ship's boiler cleaning specialists were preparing to examine the starboard boiler on a liquid natural gas (LNG) carrier (the Hilli). A halogen lamp was placed inside the boiler steam drum and an explosion occurred immediately, injuring both men. One died but the other, although seriously injured, recovered after about three months. This article summarises the main descriptive points and conclusions of a published report on the incident1 to which readers are referred for detailed descriptions and findings, procedures used and other matters of relevance or interest.
