- Abstract
The article reports on a study which develops a way of converting Joule heating into sound as well as reproducing music and speech. It describes the thermoacoustic device developed by the research group which uses nanometres-thick parallel wires, silicon substrate and aluminum crossbars. It recalls the sound devices thermophones proposed in the early 1900s and the problem it encountered with the thermal conductivity of metal wires.
