- Abstract
The article discusses how the 2009 global recession has forced manufacturers in the solar-energy industry to downsize or scale back projects. Examples are given of companies that have closed facilities or reduced work forces to cut costs including BP Solar, which closed its photovoltaics factory in Austrailia, and an employee layoff at GT Solar, in Merrimack, New Hampshire. Also discussed are legislative incentives, such as renewable energy tax credits, by the U.S. Congress to help the industry.
