- Title
UK government claims half of MRC's patent profits.
- Abstract
The article reports that the Medical Research Council (MRC) of Great Britain is to hand over worth £92 million to the government's consolidated fund in order to finance to its other general programs. The fund, accordingly, is said to have been earned by MRC from exploiting its intellectual property, like its discovery of a monoclonal antibody technology. Although MRC had been allowed to keep and use the money in building its medical research facilities in the past few years, the money is now decided to give it over to the government. But to MRC chief executive Leszek Borysiewicz, the way in which the Treasury would be spending the money is worthy of debate.
