- Abstract
Refers to a type of paraesophageal hiatus hernia, characterized by a complete or nearly complete herniation of the stomach into the posterior mediastinum [[1]]. A hiatus hernia develops as a consequence of increased laxity of the phrenoesophageal membrane with a herniation of the stomach through the esophageal hiatus of the diaphragm into the mediastinum [[2]]. Upside-down develops as a complication of a type II hernia, when the stomach herniates through the defect in the phrenoesophageal membrane [[4]].
