- Abstract
Roof tile sector in Turkey is continuing to develop every day and traditional production methods are replaced by processes evaluated via R&D studies. Accordingly, bigot and new recipe studies have been conducted at Ece Kiremit production facilities for the identification and elimination of drying cracks during natural drying following the shaping of roof tile products. Bigot Curves were drawn for all raw materials in addition to conducting studies for drawing out their characterizations as well as studies for new recipes for eliminating these faults. Based on the Bigot Curve logic, drying curves were drawn for all samples at 100 °C to identify the moisture release characteristics of roof tile samples as well as their drying shrinkage and curves were provided for shrinkage - moisture based on Bigot. As a result of the experimental studies conducted, three different clays were used in the study including Gülücek Clay, Gülücek Kist and Kınık Kist. It was analyzed that since Gülücek Kist has a lower dry shrinkage compared to the other raw materials and since it completes its dry shrinkage upon releasing a small portion (1,04 %) of its moisture, using it in high amounts in the recipe will lead to drying cracks. In addition, as can be understood from the results of characterization analyses, it was observed to have a greater water retention capacity compared with the other raw materials since it has a structure that includes minerals such as chlorite and clinochlore. A total of 4 different recipes were developed and the ratio of Gülücek Kist was decreased in the recipe. It can be observed for all 4 recipes that drying shrinkages are at a wider interval based on time but that the moisture is released faster. Recipes 3 and 4 were considered to have priority for production trials and it was considered appropriate to conduct production trial with recipe 2 in case any adverse results are obtained.
