- Title
Warning Flags for Erythropoiesis-Stimulating Agents and Cancer-Associated Anemia.
- Authors
Lappin, Terence R.; Maxwell, A. Peter; Johnston, Patrick G.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the potential adverse effects of erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs) in anemic cancer patients who are not receiving chemotherapy issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It explains that anemia may be aggravated by chronic blood loss from tumor sites or be secondary to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. It cites the need to examine the functionality of Epo receptors in neoplasia to understand the adverse outcomes of administering ESAs to cancer patients.
