- Abstract
According to the two accounts of creation (Gen 1-3) the distinctive feature of the human being compared to other creatures consists in being animated by a pulling force between the breath of life and material. In the first account, the duality of gender is, at the same time, a unity: in both of them there is the entirety of the human being, and both, male and female, are created according to the same model, namely God. This is their first alliance: man and female are made in the same way, both are the symbol of the presence of the Creator in the world. The second alliance originates from the first, and it is related to the blessing and the mission entrusted to them, without distinctions of roles. The second account is more complicated. After the separation that concerns the ādām from which God took the material to create the woman, follows a second separation that leads to the creation of a further alliance: the separation of the man from his family of origin.
