- Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the cognitive functions of patients with familial amyloid polyneuropathy followed up in a tertiary hospital in Fortaleza-CE. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out from January-November 2019. The population consisted of patients with FAP confirmed by genetic testing. The group of patients was compared to the control group. For the cognitive evaluation, the ACE-R (Revised Addenbrooke Cognitive Examination), FAB (Frontal Evaluation Battery) and Brief Cognitive Battery were used. Results: The final population consisted of 8 patients and 16 controls. There was a trend towards worse performance in antegrade memory in the group of patients. The group of patients performed worse in the item immediate memory of the short battery. Conclusion: Our study carried out the first cognitive evaluation in the Ceará population of patients with FAP. Neuroimaging can bring more data.
