- Abstract
Basket weaving, the practice of intertwining plant fibers to create objects, has been utilized for diverse purposes throughout history. Native North Americans and Turks, although geographically separate, both have profound histories in this craft. Besides their conventional use for storage and transport, baskets have served various roles including fishing aids and ceremonial objects. This study aims to draw comparisons between the materials, patterns, and motifs in Native North American and Turkish basket weaving. The striking similarities observed despite differing geographies and raw materials highlight the shared aspects of human creativity and functionality. In this context, a field study was conducted in 2015 in a Native American reservation area in North America to examine the similarities in basket weaving products between the two cultures.
