- Abstract
The national government of Colombia, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, has carried out a joint project with the University of the Andes, the Autonomous University of Bucaramanga, and the Institute for Educational Research and Development (idep). The objective of the project was to promote teaching excellence through research on pedagogical practices in the classrooms. The dossier of the Íkala magazine includes five investigations conducted by language teachers, addressing topics such as reading competence, learning English as a foreign language, and the development of writing skills in basic and secondary education students. The studies reveal an average performance in literal reading comprehension and a low performance in inferential and critical comprehension, highlighting the importance of working on specific reading comprehension techniques and pedagogical strategies to improve student learning.
