- Title
Substance P and eosinophils: an itchy connection.
- Authors
Friedman, Sheli; Levi-Schaffer, Francesca
- Abstract
The authors comments on a study which examines the function of neuropeptide substance P (SP) receptors on primary eosinophils and its therapeutic potential. Topics include the proinflammatory properties of SP due to its ability to induce the release of inflammatory mediators, the activation of mast cells by SP which induces eosinophil chemotaxis and its therapeutic potential in pruritus and cough-associated conditions.
