- Abstract
The substitution of the Yo first person-subject pronoun by mi persona as a reference instead of the personal pronoun was studied. The objective was to determine the elements that influence the use of mi persona. Fifteen (15) survey forms and five (5) interviews were applied to Spanish speakers from Mérida. The purpose was (1) to determine whether they used or not mi persona expression as an alternative to yo, and to find out the reasons of this; and (2) to know if speakers would use other expressions to refer themselves different from mi persona, and the situations -public or private- in which they used them. Results show that preference associated with linguistic attitude was the element chosen for using the expression or the personal pronoun. Likewise, it was determined that mi persona is more frequently used by women than men. Contexts -public or private- play a role in the moment of election. Finally, other alternative ways were found: quien les habla or este humilde servidor.
