- Abstract
MANAGEMENT LEARNING ONTOLOGIES Table 1 provides an overview of salient ontologies, including the different understanding of management learning each of them implies and how concrete research projects have been built on them.[2] We grouped the table into four larger ontological families, which share important fundamental features. Two examples of such families are realist ontologies, which emphasize a "real", objective, and unchanging essence of existence, or the post-structural family of ontologies, emphasizing the transient and fluid nature of reality. [21]: 197-198) observed that, "although having the "right" ontology does not guarantee that the ensuing meta-theory, theory, and practice will also be "right", having an ontology that is not suitable makes this virtually impossible." Focusing on ontologies in isolation is also consistent with the observation that one and the same ontology may suit multiple paradigms, and that one paradigm might have multiple compatible ontologies.
