- Title
XI. HIV Seroprevalence Surveys: Impetus for Preventive Activities.
- Authors
Novick, Lloyd F.
- Abstract
The article comments on the importance of the seroprevalence determinations of human immunodeficiency virus for design and implementation of preventive strategies in New York State. Surveys conducted by the state's Department of Health spurred preventive interventions including information to the public and health care providers and increased counseling and testing of women of reproductive age. Serosurveys confirmed higher rates of infection with increasing age and minority status and a strong association with intravenous drug use.
