- Abstract
Durable press finishes were applied to several plain weave cotton sheeting fabrics with the same construct ion. The fabrics included a control fabric made from unmercerized cotton fibers, a second fabric made from mercerized cotton fibers and a third fabric made from unmercerized fibers that was mercerized after weaving. The strength and abrasion properties of these fabrics after durable press finishing were measured. The durable press finished samples derived from the fiber mercerized fabrics showed substantially greater tearing strength than similar samples derived from the other two fabrics. However, this improvement in strength properties did not translate into improved abrasion resistance.
