- Abstract
Introduction: Primary Health Care (PHC) is considered the first level of health care, capable of solving up to 80% of health problems. Objective: To analyze evidence of the contribution of primary health care to patient safety. Methods: Systematic review and meta-analysis performed on sources obtained through six databases (Medline, Cinahl, Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science and Lilacs), based on the eligibility criteria listed. The descriptors primary health care and patient safety were used, the statistical method meta-analysis applied to the systematic review that integrates the results of primary studies, combining results from different studies. Results: General data analysis was performed using the R software. 2,171 studies were found, of which, after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 13 were selected to compose the review and metaanalysis. It was found, after randomization, considering not only a variation, but the variation of several studies, that the randomization effect is 0.70 [CI (0.66 - 0.75)], p = 0.01, which represents that primary care has a positive impact on the development of patient safety strategies in different areas. Conclusion: Primary care develops essential actions that can minimize the risks for users and reduce the rates of negative health events.
