- Abstract
The great development of the numerical modelling generate a common question: how much the designer should trust the results of these sophisticated numerical models? Considering this matter we developed four models for a wing layout with a rather complex structure using solid elements, plate elements, beam and concentrated elements, or a plate modeled spur with concentrated loads. We evaluate these models keeping in mind to have the same mass for the structure. For a first step of the analysis we determine the normal modes of all the finite element models. The analysis was performed with a commercial code (PATRAN/NASTRAN). The main conclusion of this evaluation is that we should keep in mind the problem we want to analyze and we should use the appropriate model for the problem. Sometimes the calculation effort is too high for the respective problem and this is the one of main aspects we want to highlight. Comparing the numerical with experimental data is always useful and we intend to draw some conclusions if possible.
