- Abstract
The article determines the role of tumor necrosis factor a (TNF-a) in the spinal cord injury (SCI) pathogenesis. The authors say TNF-a transgenic (tg) and wild-type, genetically engineered rats in the study underwent a complete single-level laminectomy at the 10th thoracic vertebra (T10). They found that TNF-a overexpression is harmful in the acute phase, but beneficial in the chronic phase in the response to SCI. The potential administration of TNF-a inhibitors during the early or chronic stage to improve neurological recovery in SCI patients is cited.
