The article focuses on the violence in Aguan River Valley in Honduras. Annie Bird of human rights advocacy group Rights Action (RA) notes that the conflict is primarily driven by land rights competition between agricultural businesses and local farmers. Moreover, the it mentions the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) programs of Kyoto Protocol which allow Western governments and companies to trade carbon credits with businesses to develop nations that use renewable energy.
