- Abstract
We use the nonstandard finite difference (NSFD) method to solve the two-compartments pharmacokinetic models of drug elimination. Pharmacokinetic models are commonly used to predict drug concentrations in the body. These models are modeled by nonlinear ordinary differential equations. We apply the NSFD rules, based on Mickens' idea of transferring nonlinear models into discrete schemes. The method used was compared with other established methods to verify its efficiency and accuracy. Two-compartment pharmacokinetic models are considered for different routes of administration: I.V. bolus injection and I.V. bolus infusion.
