- Title
Myths, archetypes and the mystery of leadership.
- Authors
Morley, Karen
- Abstract
The article explores the mystery behind leadership, suggesting that important parallels can be concluded between the actions of modern business tycoons and the ancient world of god-kings. It examines the distant past using Carl Jung’s analysis of myths and archetypes, and explores them within the context of recent reports on the BHP Billiton Ltd. and Rio Tinto PLC merger. It contends that myths pervade the engagement in organizational life and, as myths are associated with the sacred, they bring spiritual elements squarely into the business domain. It is also cited that archetypes have a collective or universal pattern that can be identified across cultures and time, and with cultural and individual differences.
