- Authors
Helms, Ernest L.
- Abstract
The article presents information on the house and family of South Carolina merchant Adam Marshall. The author presents a genealogy of the Marshall and Gregg families in Society Hill, South Carolina. The life of Adam's son Henry Marshall in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana is discussed, focusing on his political career as both a state senator and supporter of Louisiana's secession from the U.S. The author alleges that those who moved from Society Hill to DeSoto Parish helped change the parish's architecture. Photographs of the Marshall's various homes in both areas are provided.
