- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the history of the use of radioactive materials for cosmetic, medical, and technological purposes, among others. An overview of theories of atoms and of elements from antiquity is also presented. Among the associations of radiation described are research, terrorism, and also disasters. The disasters mentioned highlight that in Chernobyl, Ukraine, and research emphasized medical efforts in treating the conditions AIDS or cancer. Fear of radiation, especially clinical radiophobia, is also addressed.
