- Title
Uwagi na temat polskich ogrodów w XVIII wieku. Rozważania na marginesie monografii Seweryna Malawskiego.
- Authors
Jagiełło, Marzanna
- Abstract
Seweryn Malawski's monograph dedicated to Polish gardens in the 18th century undoubtedly is a breath of fresh air in the research on horticulture. The book offers numerous new themes, including, above all, the cultural context provided by the author that organises our knowledge of the subject to date. Unfortunately, this publication has also some shortcomings, namely, it gives readers an incomplete image of the content suggested by the book's title. For example, it fails to properly address the important Polish phenomenon that was the role of women in creating gardens. Also, no reference was made to collecting, which was very popular at the time and often associated with horticulture. Furthermore, the book does not include even the slightest mention of the phenomenon referred to as Masonic gardens or gardens other than those linked to residences (monastic, botanical, public).
