- Abstract
The article discusses the history of public health, national building, and race relations in Israel, with a focus on the mass ringworm irradiation as a preventive medical treatment for many Jewish immigrants to Israel between 1949 and 1960. Topics include the medical procedure of irradiation against ringworm; the effects of the public health program in Israel on infection rates; and the long-term health consequences of the X-ray treatment which caused life-threatening complications for some immigrants who underwent irradiation treatment.
