- Title
TRIBAL OPT-IN TO THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT: STRENGTHENING SOVEREIGNTY TO RESIST NATIVE VOTER SUPPRESSION.
- Authors
MAROTZ, HAYDEN
- Abstract
The article argues that the Voting Rights Act should be amended to allow tribal governments to opt-in to the U.S. Department of Justice's review of state and local laws that infringe on the voting rights of tribal members. Topics discussed include problems of Native voter suppression, mechanics of the opt-in approach, and scholar criticisms of its limitations including the difficulty of identifying the appropriate body to represent minority interests.
