- Abstract
Objective: To describe the performance of normal school going fourth graders on tests of body scheme. Method: 15 children of English medium public school of fourth grade, were selected who had average or above average school performance as reported by the teachers. All subjects were tested with tests of finger localization, right-left discrimination, pointing to body parts on command, body-visualization test, body parts puzzle & draw a man test. Results: Subjects were able to complete all the tests successfully but 7 subjects did one or more errors on body visualization test questions. Conclusion: Significant number of children could not succeed on somato-spatial relationship questions (body visualization). Thus, either development of such concept is not complete in fourth graders or the test items are too difficult to understand at this academic level. Use of this test for children of this age may not yield valid and reliable results of body scheme concept.
