- Title
"WHAT'S IN A NAME?": MURIHIKU, COLONIAL KNOWLEDGE-MAKING, AND "THIN-CULTURE.".
- Authors
Stevens, Michael J.
- Abstract
This article examines the shifting understandings of the term Murihiku as it relates to southern New Zealand. It suggests that current usage of the word, including by most Mäori, owes more to colonial transformations than is realised. It is argued that this points to the "thinness" of Mäori culture and its mixed contemporary nature.
