- Title
CONCLUSION AND FUTURE RESEARCH.
- Abstract
The article states that amniotic fluid AFP is a reliable parameter for the prenatal detection of NTD in high-risk pregnancies, but maternal serum AFP also seems very promising and will probably be used for screening within the near future. Maternal serum AFP seems also to be a valuable parameter in imminent abortions and in fetal and placental distress situations. Fetal AFP may be used as a gestational-age parameter, but prospective studies should confirm its usefulness in this respect. Twin studies seem to indicate that the AFP concentration in cord blood is genetically determined.
