- Title
Jamming: A new kind of phase transition?
- Authors
Biroli, Giulio
- Abstract
The article discusses the phenomenon of phase transition in case of shaken granular materials and jamming transition. The experiment shows that, when approaching the jamming transition, the dynamics becomes increasingly spatially heterogeneous, and strongly reminiscent of the behavior of glass-forming liquids. The first measurement of the evolution of dynamical heterogeneities as a function of the packing fraction as the jamming transition is also presented.
