- Title
Beyond the ivory tower: Do patent rights regimes impact on patenting behaviour in Sweden and Germany?
- Authors
Sellenthin, Mark O.
- Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to assess whether patent rights regimes in universities in Sweden and Germany matter for the incentives to apply for patents. A quantitative study based on original survey data was carried out. The regression results show that the formal patent rights regimes have only limited explanatory power. Researchers that received support from the public infrastructure and researchers that have experience with the patenting system - through own previous patents or joint patent applications with firms are much more likely to apply for patents.
