- Abstract
Aim: Placements of peritoneal end of V. P. shunt in suprahepatic area and compare it from placement of peritoneal end in general peritoneal cavity. Materials and Methods: Total 150 patients were included in study. In all patients peritoneal end was coiled and placed in suprahepatic area by making right subcostal incision. Comparison was done with retrospective patients in which peritoneal end was put in general peritoneal cavity, in terms of pseudocyst formation, intestinal obstruction, blockage of lower end of V.P. shunt. Result: Of total 150 patients in which peritoneal end was coiled and placed in the suprahepatic area two patients were presented with peritoneal pseudocyst formation. Two patients presented with blocked lower end and none of them was presented with symptoms of intestinal obstruction. In retrospective compassion with 200 hundred patients in which peritoneal end was placed in general peritoneal cavity, one patient presented with pseudocyst formation, where as 27 patients were readmitted with complaints of lower end block and 8 patients were presented with symptoms of intestinal obstruction. Conclusion: Placement of peritoneal end of V.P. shunt in suprahepatic area is safe and easy procedure than placing it in general peritoneal cavity. Complications such as intestinal obstruction and blockage of lower end of V.P. shunt are quite lower.
