- Title
Big Festivals Don't Work …at least for me!
- Authors
Melamed, Lanie
- Abstract
The author reflects on the reasons why big folk music festivals do not work for her. She remarks that such huge events take away the chance for an intimate sharing of music between performer and audience and the sense that they are doing it more for love than money. The author outlines her hopes for the future of folk music in urban settings, which include holding smaller, regional festivals more frequently and creating more opportunities for informal participation, sharing and learning.
