Bitter Harvest.
- Authors
Gutmann, Ethan
- Abstract
The article looks at evidence suggesting that in the 1990s and 2000s, the Chinese government carried out a large-scale program of involuntary organ harvesting from prisoners, including some who had just been executed, some who were about to be executed, and some live prisoners who were not on death row. It says the evidence came to light following the defection of Wang Lijun, a Chongqing province Community Party official and subordinate of the province's party secretary, Bo Xilai. It reports on the widespread imprisonment of followers of the religious group Falun Gong beginning in 1999 and says that Falun Gong prisoners of conscience were subjected to forced organ harvesting.
