The article focuses on the reproductive biology of northern red oak (Quercus rubra L.) and the results of studies from other species of Quercus. The pollination of red oaks occur in the first season and the ovule primordia remain as placentae until the following growing season. Further ovary maturation occurs about one month following pollination in the first growing season. It details the findings of a comparative study of Q. alba and Q. velutina.
