- Abstract
The article discusses the role of aerial surveying in the development of the Canadian mining industry. The 1936 issue of the "Canadian Surveyor" depicting a plane and a field surveyor illustrates the contributions of aviation and aerial surveying to mining in Canada. With exposure to aerial surveying during World War I, Canadian surveyors returned to North America to exploit the technique of mapping the continent's interior. The Canadian Shield became an impetus for aerial surveying.
