Because they believe that extended foster care is damaging to children and every child is entitled to a permanent home, the authors have developed an approach to working with natural parents that has two goals: (1) rehabilitation of the natural parents or (2) placing the child for adoption. This approach involves helping the parents overcome their resistance and plan decisively for their children's future.
