How CLEAN Is the RIVER!
- Authors

- Abstract
The article presents information about a year-long river project for elementary school students to build science-process skills and understanding of basic water-quality concepts. Four third-grade classes from Forks Elementary School in Forks, Washington, took up the project to determine salmon and water quality of a local river. During the project, students learned first-hand how to apply scientific concepts to real-life situations. Students were provided with a combination of strong content and a solid framework around which to build science lessons that proved successful beyond expectations. To start with the project, students read books to learn about water-quality issues and made notes in science notebooks, modeling processes real scientists use when they begin an investigation.
