- Abstract
Hypertension is a syndrome characterized by persistent elevation of blood pressure. Its incidence in children is lower than in adults; it changes from 1 to 3%. It may be primary or secondary; the secondary type mostly is caused by renal diseases. We describe the normal ranges based on the fourth document of the National High Blood Pressure Education Program. We describe the auxiliary methods for the diagnosis of the etiology. The treatment depends on the cause which could be medical (changes in life style, antihypertensives) or surgical.
