- Title
OPTIMUM POPULATION IN RURAL AREAS: EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE FROM THE FRANC ZONE.
- Authors
Stryker, J. Dirck
- Abstract
This article deals with a study on the evidences which indicate the negative effects of low population and capital density on rural development. The major cost associated with low population density in rural areas consists of the resources required to overcome the space that separates consumers, producers, and suppliers of factor inputs. The majority of the population in most of the countries of the Franc Zone is rural and participates at least part-time in agriculture. Many others who live in urban areas are, nevertheless, engaged in activities, such as marketing, which contribute to the value of agricultural output.
