- Abstract
The article reflects on the work and influence of economist John Maynard Keynes in the development of economic theory. It provides information on the effect of Keynes religion on his economic opinions and Keynes's pre-occupation during the twenties and thirties. Keynes' contributions to the theory of economics were closely related to and usually followed his practical proposals and these in turn were closely related to his general philosophy. An understanding of the background of his thought is indispensable for a correct interpretation of his conclusions and for an explanation of his eminence and of the seeming paradoxes in his career. Keynes, like most if not all of the great figures in economics, has striven to influence events as well as to explain them and economists to other branches of social science cannot safely relegate the effects of economic theories on human action.
