- Abstract
The article analyzes the relationship between history and postmodernism in Taiwanese literature, focusing specifically on the ways in which such literature both criticizes and relies on aspects of historical representation. In this regard, the opinions of literary theorist Linda Hutcheon are extensively engaged with by the author. The author also analyzes the metafictional qualities of the Taiwanese short story "Xugou yu jishi," by Lai Xiangyin, focusing on the ways in which the story questions historical representation and objectivity.
