- Abstract
The article explores the specific concepts or aspects of Wayne C. Booth's "The Rhetoric of Fiction" and presents a discussion about the book in the Chinese critical context in the twentieth century. Chinese scholars were adopting the formal criticism which gives veritable sense of liberation and freedom. It has been stated that the book offers a very useful and wide-ranging discussion of fictional narrative techniques that would give significant role in transforming and promoting narratives studies. The book is a milestone of Western aesthetics of fiction and provides practical value of congenial context for the Chinese. The concepts and aspects of the book including the implied author, unreliability and narrative distance are discussed.
