- Abstract
Three basic failure modes of slope engineering of plane sliding, wedge sliding and toppling failure were analyzed and summarized by stereo projection method based on kinematics analysis. Taking the high slope of spillway of a large water control project as an example, the dominant structural planes were selected according to the survey results and the maximum safety slope angle was obtained by stereo projection method which was compared with the existing natural slope angle to evaluate the stability of the slope. The results showed that the wedge sliding might be occurred. Based on this conclusion, a 3-D numerical model was established in 3DEC to analyze the stability of the wedge under natural and rainstorm conditions. This method combined qualitative analysis with quantitative analysis.
