- Title
PORTS AND SHIPPING.
- Abstract
Djibouti has completed a $70 million expansion of its Gulf of Aden port, which is intended to meet increasing demand and facilitate trade with neighboring Ethiopia. The expansion will allow Ethiopia to benefit from lower rates for shipping its cargo and the port can now accommodate the largest container ships. In Tanzania, there is a pledge for more collaboration with Uganda to streamline cargo movement through the central corridor, and efforts are being made to eliminate bottlenecks hampering trade volumes between the two countries. Additionally, the construction of the Mbamba Bay Port on Lake Nyasa has begun, which will increase cargo and passenger traffic and serve as an important link between Tanzania, Malawi, and Zambia. The arrival of the cruise ship MV Norwegian Dawn at the Dar es Salaam Port is seen as a strategic and confidence-inspiring event for other ships of similar size to dock there.
