The article focuses on "Laudato Si" a papal encyclical written by Pope Francis which teaches about the treatment of non-human animals. Topics discussed include a brief overview of the Catholic tradition and teaching on the treatment of non-human animals prior to "Laudato Si," a theses on non-human animals by Thomas Aquinas, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which serves as the most significant post-Vatican II magisterial document on non-human animals.
