- Abstract
Aim: to describe the role of nursing in outpatient care for a person who suffered electrical burns and who is undergoing conservative treatment. Method: For that, the recommendations of the Case report guidelines were followed. Report of a single case with an adult patient who suffered an electrical burn and has been undergoing conservative treatment and outpatient follow-up at a university hospital in the south of the country. Data were collected through interviews and consultation of medical records. Study approved by the local ethics committee. Results: Initially, due to the severity of the patient, he was admitted to the intensive care unit, followed by an infirmary, where dressings were performed with silver sulfadiazine, essential fatty acid, collagenase, and even surgical procedures for debridement and grafting. Throughout the outpatient follow-up, several evaluations were carried out considering aspects of wound healing and psychosocial aspects. Due to 3 personal difficulties and surgery treatment, nursing assessments and interventions to improve healing / recovery from burns led to complete healing after almost two years of care. Conclusion: It is concluded that the conservative treatment of severe burn, as in the present case, is time consuming and costly for the health system, patient and family. However, using solid knowledge about wound healing and its related aspects, it is possible for nursing to establish an appropriate treatment, with good results.
