- Abstract
The article discusses an exhibition of artist Roy Dowell's work at the Miles McEnery Gallery in New York City. The works on display are smaller than those in Dowell's previous show, but they create a vibrant and confrontational atmosphere through their juxtapositions and formal play. Dowell's works are often geometrical and require the viewer to complete them, with suggestions of facial features inspiring immediate recognition. The article also explores the interpretations of Dowell's works and their connection to Jungian archetypes and meditative contemplation. Dowell's use of color, particularly the matte finish and intense hues of Flashe pigments, adds richness to his works. The article concludes by speculating on whether Dowell will expand his compositions into larger fields or continue to work on a more intimate scale.
